Ugbrooke narrow winners in Inter-House Science and Maths Challenge

This year the Science challenge evolved into a Science and Maths challenge following an enthusiastic approach from Mrs Grant in the Maths department. As last year each team was made up of a balance of students from Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
The first round was the Physics round and the challenge was for each team to design and make a balloon-powered rocket that on launching would travel along a string stretched the length of the laboratory in the shortest time. Points were also given for style and co-operation within the team.
The Chemistry round consisted of two challenges one to identify a mystery compound using flame tests, the second a tricky neutralisation challenge which the Year 7 excelled at after practising in Dr Trimmings lessons.
The Biology round was very much a mystery object round with coconuts and brains in feely boxes; a Name That Mystery Microscopic Image; a Match the Fruit to the Seeds activity; and finally a Spot the Camouflaged Animal challenge.
