Celebration of Reading for World Book Day

This week Trinity pupils across the whole school have been celebrating World Book Day with week-long activities celebrating literature and reading.

The Prep Department were given a very unusual request on Wednesday when Dr Basil Fotherington-Smythe sent a shoe-box and accompanying letter. It stated that inside the box was a rare creature from the Brazilian Rainforest that had sharp teeth, small horns and was nocturnal (it also SNORED!)

It was sent to Trinity Prep as it was causing chaos everywhere else, and lo and behold on Thursday we found the school turned upside down as the little creature had escaped! All pupils from Reception to Prep 6 contributed passages throughout the day to create a story about the creature, which was then read in its entirety at the end of the day. Everyone came to school dressed in pyjamas or onesies and brought in books for others to enjoy.

In the Senior Department Year 13 English Literature pupil Janav Singh supported by Year 9 pupils led an assembly on Tuesday focusing on the benefits of reading and how books can influence life choices. The Library has been running a book swap and a competition all this week and a competition in the English corridor has focused on books that may or may not have been based in Devon and Cornwall. Key Stage 3 classes were again given a six chapter book this year, with each chapter read to them by their six teachers on Thursday at the start of each lesson.
