Trinity School to launch Connect- a Christian Union for the Senior Department

12th October 2015

Three 6th Form students, Ben Greenwell, Simon Lai and Tristan Whipps, together with the school chaplain Revd Jonathon are to launch 'Connect', a Christian Union for the Senior Department.

The first initiative Connect will embark upon will be to run a Youth Alpha Course which is a practical introduction to the Christian faith aimed especially at those who are not regular churchgoers. Youth Alpha runs for approximately 6 to 8 weeks and each meeting involves food, a short talk and some group discussion or activity. It’s a way of exploring, questioning and challenging the basics of the Christian faith. Topics covered include ‘Who is Jesus?’ ‘How does God guide us?’ and ‘How can I make the most of the rest of my life?’ Big questions!

Alpha is for anyone who is curious. No question is out of bounds and everyone is free to discuss as much or as little as they wish.  If you would like to find out more about Alpha generally then take a look at

Commenting on Connect, Revd Jonathon says “I was delighted that these students approached me recently in order to start up a Christian group and the idea of Connect and Youth Alpha has really taken hold from there. Ben, Tris and Simon (as pictured above from left to right) have brought energy and initiative to this project and I want to do everything I can to encourage and support them, both practically and prayerfully. We have quite a few pupils who have shown an interest in learning more about Christianity,  and therefore Youth Alpha seemed to be a good starting point for us as a school. It is, in essence , an invitation to ‘have a good look’ at Christianity in an environment which is non-threatening, open, informal and non-judgemental. We really want to encourage pupils to come along to explore, question and challenge and to hopefully have some fun along the way!”

The plan is for Youth Alpha to start at the beginning of next term. Further details will follow to pupils, parents and staff. If in the meantime you would like to find out more please do not hesitate to contact Revd Jonathon at school on
