Summer revisited: CCF holiday successes
13th September 2016
On a warm, sunny and sultry September afternoon we revisit some of our pupils' summer achievements.
Once again, it has been a remarkable holiday for several members of our hugely successful CCF contingent.
Tris Whipps (Year 13) and Josh Trickett (Year 11) achieved RYA Level 2 Powerboating at Jupiter Point the Royal Navy Sea Sense Training Centre in Cornwall.
Emily Pollard (Year 9) and Joel Heathcote (Year 10) joined their Contingent Commander Lt Cdr Geraldine Poulet-Bowden as crew on a Nic 55 yacht CHASER at the Joint Services Adventurous Sail Training Centre in Gosport, Hampshire for a sailing adventure which took them to Lymington, Cherbourg, Alderney, Guernsey, Plymouth, Salcombe and then Dartmouth.
Meanwhile Connor Hare (Year 11) was arriving at Britannia Royal Naval College with Lt Gérard Poulet for the CCF RN HQ Summer Camp at Dartmouth. This was Connor’s third year as a member of the Corps of Drums in the CCF National Band.
Gus Bascombe (Year11 ) and Josh Trickett (Year 11) joined the yachting option at the Camp undergoing sail training along the South Coast of Devon. The end of the Summer Camp saw the start of the ASTO Small Ships Race. For this Emily and Joel remained on CHASER, Josh sailed on CORNISH AIR, Gus on AMARYLLIS and Connor was joined by Mackenzie Podstatzky (Year 10) on SEALION. All four yachts represented CCF RN in the race from Dartmouth to Gosport. Congratulations go to Connor and Mackenzie as SEALION came first in her class with Gus on AMARYLLIS in second place.
