Geographers investigate the changing face of Exeter
21st March 2017
A group of Sixth Form Geographers visited Exeter to explore a new unit in their A level course. A change from the traditional Human Geography taught at this level, the students explored the changing nature of Exeter. Their research online and through questionnaires looked at how people relate to the city. The recent fire at the historic Clarence Hotel was a focus of this investigation.
The team were very lucky to have an interview with the manager of Ridgway Shoes based on Cathedral Green which is 2 shops from the Clarence Hotel. Sean the manager outlined the challenges facing the business with the current restoration work as well as the opportunities that there will be for businesses in Exeter. The changing nature of retail was explored also; is Exeter becoming a food and drink centre rather than a retail one? The students were very grateful to Ridgways for being so generous with their time and support of our investigation.
