Frau Fischer Nominated for German Teacher Award
9th July 2019
As Trinity pupils were celebrating this year’s achievements at Speech Day last Wednesday, our own Frau Fischer was at the German Ambassdor’s Residence after being nominated for the embassy’s German Teacher Award.
Attendees welcomed the Anglo-German award-winning duo behind the best-selling children’s book The Gruffalo; Julia Donaldson CBE and Axel Scheffler.
The annual German Teacher Award and the ‘Sommerfest der deutschen Sprache’ pay tribute to and recognise the best and most committed champions of German in primary and secondary schools across the UK. The ‘Sommerfest’ was attended by over 250 teachers and representatives from the education and language teaching sectors, as well as from the business sector and the media from all over the UK.
Guest of honour Julia Donaldson took the audience on a very personal journey through her relationship with Germany and the German language and together with her husband Malcolm, Axel Scheffler and two volunteers from the audience gave an engaging and lively mini-performance of The Gruffalo in German, followed by a live drawing by Axel Scheffler.
It was a great honour to finish runner-up for such a prestigious prize and all at Trinity would like to congratulate Frau Fischer for her hard work and achievements as both German teacher and Head of Chapel Boarding. Frau Fischer had a delightful time at the event which was inspirational and showed true passion for German culture and language, and she also received a personal drawing of the cat from Room on the Broom by Axel!
