Continuing Success for Trinity Tennis Players
8th January 2016
It may be winter but it has been a busy and successful period for several of the school’s tennis players, a number of whom have been involved in various key tournaments, and who all take advantage of the excellent on-site, professionally-coached tennis academy.
Sisters Emily and Victoria Syms have been doing particularly well. 12 year old Emily Syms actually competed in the main draw at the National Championships which were held recently at Bolton. She also won an under 16 event in Birmingham, beating the top seed in the final, before following this up with an excellent result in reaching the final of an under 18 event in Gloucester, beating the top seed on the way. And 9 year old Victoria Syms has been awarded the Devon young player of the year award for her excellent achievements and progress during 2015 and will accept her award at a presentation evening in late January.
Year 7 pupil Daniel Mountford also competed at Bolton in the qualifying event and although he was unlucky not to reach the main draw it will have been a very valuable experience to have competed in such as high level contest. Beth Cooper was top seeded at an under 14 event in Bristol, and managed to justify this ranking by reaching the final, where sadly she came out second best.
Both Emily and Beth are in the squad for Devon's under 18 county cup team, they are optimistic about their chances of selection for the team that travels to Essex to compete in a 3 day tournament there in March.
