Welcome to Sixth Form English
The English department at Trinity School has a clear ethos: It aims to provide a
successful experience of learning for all pupils taught in English lessons.
We aim to promote the pleasure and value of reading at all ages, to enable students
to achieve their full potential through support and encouragement, and to help students
to grow and develop into perceptive adults with an understanding of the value of
other cultures, viewpoints and beliefs. We encourage our students to write creatively
and imaginatively, to understand the importance of empathy and to become effective
communicators through both the written and spoken word.
Toipics and Aims & Curriculum
Students study A Level English Literature. This involves reading and discussing
a range of texts from Shakespeare to Larkin, Wordsworth to McEwan.
The students submit coursework worth 40% of the final mark.
Visits to famous heritage sites take place every year including the Lake District
and 'Bronte Country'. We encourage students to join us to see new theatre productions,
and through the publication of the English Review Magazine, students are able to
see their own work in print.
