Welcome to Senior Physical Education & Sport
The aims of the Department of Physical Education and Sport:
“To provide each student with a physical education experience based on active participation
and enjoyment.”
(Trinity School Handbook, 2008 – Department of PE and Sport)
At Trinity School, Physical Education is delivered to all Key Stages via PE lessons
during the school day. Key Stage 3 pupils develop skills in a wide variety of sports;
both in team games and individual activities. Each individual records their progress
during the academic year and targets are set for future development. In Key Stage
4, pupils have the opportunity to specialise with ‘options’ in the lessons, designed
to allow further refinement of skills and develop an understanding of health and
fitness. GCSE PE is a popular choice for many pupils, combining theoretical knowledge
with sporting prowess and results in recent years have been good, particularly when
taking into account the ‘value added’ for each pupil. Many of the pupils find that
this more theoretical approach to sport particularly appeals and they follow this
on to A Level and university.
Extra Curricular
A huge range of extra-curricular sports clubs are on offer for those wishing to
develop their skills further. In addition to Inter-House and Inter-School competitions,
teams are regularly enter in national competitions such as the ISA netball finals,
cross country, swimming, athletics and the Rosslyn Park rugby sevens tournaments.
Students are also encouraged to push their own limits with annual activities on
Dartmoor and an Adventure week in West Wales. Links with local clubs are actively
developed and many pupils enjoy the benefits of this.
Exam Results
Recent results have been most encouraging at GCSE, with 2006 seeing over 50% of
pupils achieve an A or A* grade. 2008 saw half the GCSE students gain an A or B
grade.
