Welcome to Senior Information Communication Technology
ICT plays a vital role in all areas of the curriculum at Trinity School. It is
core to our pupils’ learning and integral to embracing the varying learning
styles of our pupils. With our regularly updated software and hardware, we
enable pupils to develop their confidence and creativity with the use of ICT. In
discrete ICT lessons pupils are taught the necessary skills and techniques to
assist their progression in all subjects throughout Key Stages 3 and 4 and into
Key Stage 5. Pupils also use ICT to demonstrate their knowledge and
understanding of other subjects and all teachers are able to book the computer
rooms for their lessons.
Aims
Pupils are given maximum opportunity for a hands-on practical approach to
learning and are expected to have reached a high standard of ability by the end
of Key Stage 4. Every pupil has their own computer in lessons and because class
sizes are a maximum of 20, every pupil receives the help and personal attention
that they need.
Year 7 & 8 ICT Curriculum
Within the ICT department pupils in Years 7 and 8 are
encouraged to learn new skills and build their confidence with the aim to become
competent users of ICT. In addition to developing skills in the office suite,
pupils also learn how to use Macromedia software effectively to create digital
graphics and websites. They also use specialist software to create 2D games and
digital animations. Pupils are assessed each lesson through a variety of
assessment methods and are expected to develop abilities as shown below. Their progress in
these abilities is reported each term.
Year 7 - Ability to organise and store files appropriately, Ability to develop
ICT solutions for a specific purpose and audience, Ability to use ICT safely and
responsibly and Ability to explore and develop new skills
Year 8 - Ability to evaluate and refine work, Ability to understand the impact
of ICT on Society, Ability to use ICT to communicate and collaborate and Ability
to identify and manipulate reliable sources of information.
Level 2 OCR Nationals in ICT
“OCR Nationals are an exam-free alternative to GCSEs, taking a more engaging,
practical approach to learning and assessment.”
“The OCR Level 2 Nationals in ICT have been developed to recognise learners'
skills, knowledge and understanding of Information and Communication Technology
functions, environments and operations.“
“The learners carry out a range of tasks that have been designed to recognise their
achievements in a modern, practical way that is relevant to the workplace.”

Years 10 and 11 pupils complete further units building up a portfolio of work
which is assessed internally before being externally moderated by the exam
board. Pupils are certified for demonstrating their skills and understanding in
each unit and are graded Pass, Merit or Distinction for each unit they attempt.
As well as the ongoing assessment against the exam board
mark scheme pupils are also expected to develop abilities as shown below, their progress
in each ability is reported each term.
Year 9 - Ability to use ICT efficiently, Ability to plan and draft work, Ability
to combine multimedia effectively, Ability to use ICT to creatively solve
