Welcome to Senior Careers
The Careers Department at Trinity is there to support young people in their transition
to adult life. This is provided in a variety of ways, appropriate to their needs.
Topics & Aims/Objectives
In Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) careers is delivered as an integral part of the tutorial
programme, via the form tutors. In addition to this in Year 9 we introduce students
to the KUDOS programme which we have on the network and which allows them to explore
various career paths and opportunities. Since 2002, Year 9 students also participate
in the highly successful 'Enterprise Week', a mini Young Enterprise scheme, which
takes place during 'Activities Week' at the end of the academic year. After being
divided into groups there is a 'team-building' day on the Monday. The groups subsequently
become 'Companies' and the week culminates in a Trade Fair on the Friday. The pace
is fast and furious - financial and business planning, designing products, marketing,
production, health and safety and then selling the product. It gives the students
a real insight, both into their own strengths and weaknesses as well as into the
world of real work.
In Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11) most of the careers programme is delivered via
the tutorial programme. In Year 10 all students go out on a work experience placement
for one week. We encourage students to find their own placements and work is done
on this in the Christmas Term. They are well prepared for Work Experience and it
is, for many, a highlight of the year - a useful and successful experience which
builds on what students gain from their Industry Week the previous year.
In Year 11 careers delivery is very much directed towards their future education
and career choices and exploration thereof. Everything from advanced levels to Modern
Apprenticeships. To this end our Connexions advisor comes in regularly to interview
students and give them guidance. He also attends some parents' evenings.
