Welcome to Senior Art
“Art is a form of communication, a means of expression which ought to permeate the
whole life of the school. It affects or should affect all of our life, from the
design of the commonplace articles of everyday life, to the highest form of individual
expression”
Aims & Curriculum
Art at Trinity School is an exciting and popular subject which attracts students
who wish to be actively engaged in ambitious and creative work. The department’s
philosophy is rooted in empowering students to nurture their creative ability through
sustained activities and experiences.
The AQA syllabus is followed and students are currently entered for the Fine Art
endorsement at both GCSE and A level. The department has acquired a reputation for
high quality work and in particular, sketchbooks, which are an integral component
at all age levels and students are encouraged to document work as part of their
visual journey. Annual trips to London galleries, visits to local artist studios
and artists in residence are a key part of student experiences.
At Key Stage 3 the foundation of visual literacy, awareness and technical competence
are laid. Core skills in Drawing, Painting, Mixed media, Digital imaging, Printing,
Three Dimensional studies and Ceramics are explored.
At Key Stage 4 these skill areas are honed and refined in both directed work and
thematic based projects often initiated by the students.
Extra Curricular
The Department has an open door policy and students are able to use the facility
during the lunch session. Currently a general art club and photography club operate
as part of the school activity programme.
Exam Results
GCSE
The department has been consistently producing results more than 3 standard deviations
above the national norms. In 2008 there were 4A*, 2A, 7B grades.
