Science Department

The Science Department is located in the Dr CRH Penn Science and Resources block that was opened in January 1997. The building consists of four modern and well-equipped laboratories and two preparation rooms.

There are six full-time teaching staff and two full-time technicians, both of whom can act as laboratory assistants, when required. The Senior Technician, Mrs Jackie Jones, is an NVQ (level 3) Assessor for other school laboratory technicians and has just obtained(December 2006) a Science Degree with the Open University and her NVQ level 4. Karen Sanders, who joined the Department in September 2003 is studying for her NVQ level 3. The Department is very fortunate in having two very professional technicians, fully trained in health and safety issues, who prepare and maintain all the equipment needed for teaching Science from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5.
