Welcome to The Reception Class
Reception provides a transition between Nursery education and Key Stage 1. It sees the completion of the Early Years Foundation Stage of education.

Aims and Curriculum
Within Reception the emphasis is on learning through play. Planning is carefully produced to develop an inspiring and fun curriculum which builds upon and progresses from the valuable experiences that the children have received in Nursery. We also build and mould the activities around the interests of the children. Half termly topics include themes such as teddies, space, weather, growth, the world around us and healthy living.

To enhance the curriculum we also introduce specialist teachers for Art, Music, ICT and PE. This also aids transition to Prep Year 1 as the Prep Year 1 teacher is one of the specialist teachers. Each child’s happiness is paramount and the main aim of Reception is to provide a nurturing and positive environment, where individual needs are foremost, enabling each child to reach their full potential.

As the children progress into Prep Years One and Two, the volume of work increases and each child continues to be supported and challenged through a lively and motivating curriculum which caters for child’s individual needs and abilities. We pride ourselves on our teamwork and communication with parents and through this partnership the children continue to develop their independence and thrive in a setting where each child’s development and happiness continues to be foremost.

Results
All children in Reception are working towards the Early Learning Goals and Early Years Foundation Stage Profile. Parents receive a comprehensive report of these results including positive next steps, at the end of the summer term. The Prep Year 1 teacher also receives the results to enable them to plan and build a progressive and motivating curriculum for each child.

Target setting and informative assessment continues through Prep Year One and Two with standardised tests from Prep Year Two.

Extra Curricular Activities
A variety of clubs are offered to the children within KS1 including Art Club, Make and Create, Animal Club, Judo and Ballet. We also offer after-school care at Trinity Lodge for our Reception children and after-school care for KS1 children with one of our dedicated teaching assistants.
