Trinity School

Back to Prep Subjects

Welcome to Prep PE & Sports

As a department, our role is to give all of our pupils access to a broad and balanced Physical Education Curriculum. Our Physical Education and Games programme effectively promotes physical skills, physical development and knowledge of the body in action. There are opportunities for individuals, groups and teams to be creative and competitive in a range of contexts.

As a member of the South Dartmoor Sports Association, we provide a number of sporting contexts for all children to be involved in, eg. high flyer events and tournaments. Children have gone on to represent the school in Independent Schools Association National sporting events.

Aims & Curriculum

Within this department we teach Physical Education and Games throughout Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. We adopt a whole-school approach to PE and Games in which skills and techniques are visited and revisited. This ensures that tasks are devised which reinforce previously learned skills and knowledge whilst helping children to develop more complex skills and techniques. Topics covered include:

Key Stage 1 PE and Games:
General Skills, Ball Skills, Team Games, Gymnastics, Swimming.

Key Stage 2 PE and Games:
Hockey, Tag Rugby / Contact Rugby, Netball, Football, Cricket, Rounders, swimming, Gymnastics, Dance, Swimming, Cross Country, Athletics.

Specialist coaches take some of the activities such as tennis, swimming, cricket and dance.

Competing at ISA Athletics, one of the many diciplines taught in the Prep Department at Trinity School
