Design Technology in The Prep Department

Welcome to Prep Design Technology (DT)
Acquiring design and practical skills as early as possible is hugely beneficial
for children’s development. It is also very enjoyable and “different” from much
class-based activity, therefore proving popular with the children.
Aims & Curriculum
In the Prep Department we teach Design Technology to children in Key Stage 2 for
one hour a week. A specialist teaches the subject. Opportunities are offered for
children to develop their design and making skills, develop knowledge and understanding,
nurture creativity and innovation, through designing and making, and Develop an
understanding of technical process.
The department has also introduced food technology. Pupils have used many different
techniques and methods to make a variety of food, such as muffins and pizzas.
The school PTA has recently purchased a potters wheel and kiln.
