Drama At The Prep Department
Trinity School
Back to Prep Subjects
Welcome to Prep Drama
Drama is the subject within Trinity Prep Department where learning through imagination
and fun are the key to success.
Aims and Curriculum
Our aim is to bring to life themes from other areas of the curriculum, for example
using the play of Oliver Twist to compliment the work in History done on the Victorians
or creating our own scripts to act out, thus supporting literacy within the Department,
whilst all the time focussing on the children’s enjoyment and ever-developing sense
of confidence and self worth.
Themes within drama are therefore planned to compliment other areas of the curriculum
such as Literacy, History and PSHE and we work closely with the Art and Music Departments
to complete our dramatic pictures.
An annual Christmas musical, alternating between the Infant and Junior Departments,
is always part of the mix and chances to perform throughout the academic year are
frequently on offer.
Speaking in public is a skill to which we also attach high value and children are
offered numerous chances for public speaking as soon as they join Trinity Prep Department.
As a result, confidence levels soar and children also achieve great success in Speech
and Drama Festivals throughout the county.
Extra Curricular Activities
Trinity Prep Department also offers an extremely popular Drama Club where children
go through a formal audition process to be part of the annual Drama Club production.
Productions have included straight plays such as Wind in the Willows and The Wizard
of Oz through to full blown musicals, in conjunction with the Music Department,
such as Doo Wop Wed Widing Hood. We also run occasional Music and Drama Workshops
on open days.
In addition, Julia Ward offers English Speaking Board to all Prep Children as an
extra-curricular subject. This is a very popular, producing confident children and
very good examination results.
