Life Skills

Every half term, the Preparatory Department holds a ‘Life Skills Day’. Pupils have the chance to participate in a ‘round robin’ of three activities, usually undertaken in ‘houses’. Activities this academic year so far have included:

Forest School – building shelters, lighting fires, building an outdoor pizza oven and a willow ‘house’ and Survival skills, to name but a few of the activities.

Cooking and Art & Design - creating pizza toppings and designing a company logo for flat-pack pizza boxes.

ICT – Digital online jigsaw puzzles against the clock. Internet Safety activities. Paired and group research.

Police Liaison Officer visit – learning all about what the Police do and how they help us.

Swimming – fun and games in our outdoor heated pool.

Tipi – stories inside the tipi and sketching outside. Learning about N.American indigenous people.

Working together in mixed-age teams facilitates interaction which boosts self-confidence and social skills. Older pupils automatically look after and ensure involvement by the younger children and strong friendship bonds are often formed; evident at playtimes.
