“We’re really happy with how our daughter has been supported to settle into Trinity. All the staff have been kind and helpful enabling her to settle quickly. We are confident we made the right decision moving her to Trinity and that she will be well prepared for school in September.“
Trinity School Teignmouth announced proposals to restructure its EYFS provision and open a nursery, the Prep Lodge, as part of its successful Preparatory Department.
“We are absolutely delighted to be offering this new version of Early Years education at Trinity. The intention is to create a nursery for Trinity School operating within the Prep Department. This will build upon the outstanding provision of the existing Nursery, but will focus on care for those children who have reached their 3rd birthday. Early Years specialist key workers will provide first class care for children with the added bonus of a seamless transition into prep life. Regular parent and toddler sessions will mean that those families who are keen to join the Prep Lodge will gradually be able to build up familiarity with the site and the wonderful staff awaiting their arrival.”
The changes will regrettably mean the School will no longer be able to cater for those children under the age of three. Headmaster, Lawrence Coen, said that “it is with mixed emotions that I announce these changes. I am conscious that these changes will affect many of our loyal and committed staff, who have worked for 16 years to make the nursery in its present location a success, such that it has consistently been graded “outstanding” in all areas at Ofsted inspections. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to retain all those staff in the new structure. It is sad that the economic pressures are all against nurseries at the moment. The Government offers parents 15 hours’ free childcare a week, but only funds nurseries at a rate of £3.70 per hour. The extension of this to 30 hours per week from September 2017 and annual increases in the National Living Wage combine to affect the viability of nurseries. This is why we have seen many closing in recent years. As a business that contributes a great deal to the economy of Teignmouth, we have had to take a long, hard look at what we are able to offer. However, I am confident that our new provision, under the dynamic leadership of Rachel Eaton-Jones will continue the outstanding work of the existing Nursery.”
Mrs Eaton-Jones commented that she “would be working with the nursery staff through the current uncertainty to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible. The Prep Lodge from September 2017 will offer three and four year olds an enriching experience making full use of all the Prep Department offers, including the Forest School, art, drama and music and swimming. In addition, ballet and tennis lessons will be available. Parents will be able to use the 15 hours Government funded childcare for sessions at The Prep Lodge.”
