TRINITY SCHOOL SAILING SUCCESS
CCF National regatta 2008
Emma Bascombe and Alex Turner who are both in the Sixth form of Trinity School are pictured receiving the silver Seamanship cup from Captain Colin Welbourne RN at the National Combined Cadet Force Regatta held at Whale Island, Portsmouth.
Both girls are senior cadets in the RN Section of Trinity School Combined Cadet Force holding the rank of Petty Officer. In the Bosun dingy class Alex and Emma were competing against crews from CCF units all over the UK including Northern Ireland. Their enthusiasm and determination caught the eye of both judges who awarded the pair the trophy for the best display of seamanship qualities.
Alex turner said:” I have been competing at this National CCF Regatta for three years. Each summer since we joined CCF, Emma and I attend the CCF RN dingy sailing course at HMS RALEIGH to improve our skills but I never dreamt that we would win the Seamanship trophy this year. We were really surprised but also very happy when Trinity School was announced as the winning team”.
