Trinity School supports local charity

Trinity School in Teignmouth, played host to Dawlish-based charity A.I.M.S. (activities, interests, music and support). The group supports local families who have one or more children with special needs, by meeting every weekend at different venues. Parents have the opportunity to support each other while their children can make friends and play together and spend quality time with their parents.

Gail Henwood, senior play leader and Sharon Haughton, co-ordinator, were on hand on Saturday to lead the activities, which included a fun family swim session in Trinity School’s heated outdoor swimming pool and a playground session when children and adults alike played with a large variety of assorted toys and games, including a giant draughts board. Liz Parker and Sarah Reddaway, both teachers at Trinity, also attended and enjoyed watching the families interacting and having such fun in the school’s lovely grounds.

A.I.M.S. has been established for more than fifteen years in the area but is restricted by the cost of entry to some venues and a current shortage of helpers. More than twenty families in Teignbridge and beyond are registered with the group and more helpers would mean that this caring, innovative, much needed group could expand. The work, although unpaid, is extremely rewarding and if you, or someone you know have a few hours to spare and would be interested in finding out more, get in touch with Gail Henwood on 07711 475177. (An NVQ or similar qualification in childcare and a CRB check would be necessary).
