Trinity Prep Chamber Choir Festival Success
The Prep Department Chamber Choir travelled with their Musical Director Nigel Birt and accompanist Sarah Robbins to The Palace Avenue Theatre, Paignton on Friday 11 May to take part in the Torbay and South West of England Arts Festival. The choir sang two contrasting songs – ‘Truly Scrumptious’ from ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ and ‘All That Jazz’ from the musical ‘Chicago’. Truly Scrumptious opens with a vocal solo and this was sung with great control and poise by Wilf Wright. The choir then enter with the chorus and this was sung with a great sense of unison ensemble, which was later highly praised by the adjudicator. All That Jazz came next, and was presented complete with exciting choreography devised by Julia Ward. This lively song was delivered with huge energy by the choir; tight singing together with slick moves led to an outstanding performance. The adjudicator in her remarks praised the choir for their clear diction, the high quality of sound and immaculate presentation. She also praised the choir for their accuracy in the two part singing during ‘All That Jazz’. She clearly enjoyed the two performances awarding the choir 90 marks, which falls into the top category of Outstanding Performance. The choir were awarded the ‘Observer Cup’ for best Junior School Choir and the ‘Bryant Cup’ for highest marks gained in the Festival; both for the second year running.
