Rotary Junior Speaking Finals at Trinity School
Another wonderful Rotary Junior Speaking Finals was held in Trinity School Prep Department on Tuesday evening 15th June where 13 finalists from an original entry of 50 children competed in two classes for the Rotary Junior Speaking Cups. Talks varied between Dagus, Children in India, Skateboarding and Disneyworld to Brownies and Dawlish Carnival and the audience were kept highly entertained with demonstrations, impersonations and one or two skateboarding tricks just to add to the excitement! Two cups were presented at the end of the evening, the 8 year old runner up was Cara Morton speaking about Wimbledon and the winner was Benjamin Perriman speaking about his great love, Manchester United! The 9/10 year old cup went to Edmund Twohig speaking on World War 2 with Joshua Walker very close on his heels speaking about Norman Wisdom. So impressed were the Rotary judges that they have pledged next year to add a third cup to the proceedings so that next time we will have separate 9 and 10 year old cups. Jean Whatling, Head of Trinity Prep Department reinforced how important confidence in speaking for young people is in this day and age and the continued commitment of Trinity School to provide every opportunity to the children in order to promote these skills whenever possible.
