Trinity Success at the Torbay and South West of England
Friday April 30th saw children from Trinity School Prep Dept travel to Paignton to take part in the Torbay and South West of England annual Speech and Drama Festival. Children from the ages of 7 up to 11 entered the verse speaking classes and came out with results to make the whole school proud! Wilf Wright, James Waggett and won their respective classes with Holly Robinson, Joshua Walker and Edmund Twohig all gaining good runner up places. Meanwhile the whole of Prep 3 entered the 8 years and under Choral Speaking class performing 2 poems for the festival. This was the first time a whole class of children this young has been taken to a festival from Trinity, choral speaking being a skill that takes time, discipline and a lot of practise, but Marie Dixon, the festival adjudicator was so impressed with these children that she had them repeat the whole performance to the lucky audience before presenting them with the class cup. On Saturday 1st May winners and runners up, from all of the classes returned to the Gala performance where 10 year old Joshua Walker was deemed overall runner up from the verse speaking classes. Joshua deserves a special mention for this particular achievement as only a couple of years ago he used to be so afflicted with nerves that he simply couldn’t speak at all in front of any kind of audience but determined to overcome this affliction he took up English Speaking Board Classes and joined Trinity’s Drama Club and just goes from strength to strength, a fantastic example of what any of us can achieve with hard work and perseverance. Congratulations to Joshua and well done to all of our Trinity children who took part.
