Trinity go the extra mile – Sport Relief 2010
The students and staff at Trinity School set an ambitious challenge to achieve something remarkable this year for Sports Relief. This project brought together the three parts of the Trinity Foundation – The Lodge (Nursery), Prep School and the Senior School. Trinity was going to walk and run – Lands End to John O’Groats in 1 day – 874 miles. Initially this seemed an impossible challenge and the School adopted the slogan – Impossible is Nothing. On Friday 19th March the School came together on a wet foggy day, when most people would have opted to stay inside. The Nursery and the Prep parts of the School ran and walked their part on the school site around a hilly ½ mile course. The Nursery children walked, waddled and pushed their way around the course with participants aged 18 months up. The Nursery contributed 83 miles to the total which is amazing. The Prep School achieved a massive 264 miles which was also spectacular. The Senior School took their challenge to Mamhead and the Forestry Commission’s Sensory Trail. From 9 am till 3pm over 290 students and staff went around the 1.3 mile trail and did their bit for Sports Relief. The weather was foul but there was not a grumble from the any students who excelled in the terrible conditions showing team work, humour and a real sense of purpose to achieve their common goal. The atmosphere in the car park at Mamhead was bright and cheery and the grim weather only made this achievement more special. A number of students did it in fancy dress – the Hare and the Tortoise Sixth Form Tutor group being a wonderful example while others ran it flat out covering over 6 miles in their allotted time. The money is being collected and a target of £1000 is hoped to be exceeded. When the event was over and the mileage was counted we were staggered that this huge total of nearly 900 miles was not just beaten but smashed. The students did enough to reach the top of Scotland and then make it back across the border into England! The Schools achieved a massive total of 1118 miles in six hours. A massive thanks to all the students who went the extra mile to achieve this fantastic feat and raise valuable donations for Sport Relief. The event could not have happened without the army of bus drivers who went from Trinity to Mamhead all day and the other staff who gave up their time to help arrange the event in all 3 parts of the Trinity Foundation. Thanks to the support of the Forestry Commission who manage the Haldon Forest for allowing us to use the wonderful Sensory Trail.
