Year 11 Giving Nations

After several weeks of preparation during PHSME lessons and having spent their own time organising, planning researching and shopping for this event, Year 11 were ready to go on Friday the 6th of November.
The Salle was a plain and serene meeting room until this diverse group of enthusiastic and bubbly young people arrived with a plan to transform it into a money raising emporium. Ten separate teams had ten separate strategies for raising awareness for the charities of their choice and immediately set to work on setting up their stalls to display their goods and to encourage involvement in their activities. It was not a simple shop scenario, but an adventurous and innovative adventure with unusual, interesting and brave ideas; these included:
watching a popular student have his head shaved (who had permission from home and school), waxing the legs of two lads who now understand one of the benefits of being male, trying to excel at a computer game, faking being a top guitarist trying to aim table tennis balls into cups of sweets – on the rebound, football penalty shoot out, throwing wet sponges at a senior teacher (very popular!), and many opportunities to buy food and drink and to try ones luck with raffle tickets and hoopla.

It was a very busy and buzzing activity, with Year 11 making considerable effort to ensure that it went well and that all visitors enjoyed themselves and spent some money. They took nearly £500 in less than two hours. A wide range of charities will benefit Sure Start, Cancer Research, RNLI, The Helen Foundation, Make a Wish, Surf Lifesaving, Children in Need, Breast Cancer, Animals in Distress and Air Ambulance.

Well Done Year 11 !
