CLAIT Plus - OCR

GCE A Level in Applied ICT - OCR

Curriculum:

Perhaps more than most other subjects, ICT equips students for particular approaches to work in a wide variety of other subjects. It touches all of our lives, whether we like it or not, and it is clearly essential that students leave school with a good grasp of the subject.

Students in Key Stage 3 cover the requirements of the National Curriculum.

In Key Stage 4 every student has the opportunity to progress through OCR's CLAIT Plus qualification. This extremely practical course ensures that students develop good practice in their use of common application software.

In the 6th Form, students can opt to study for an Applied GCE in ICT, a 6-unit award, which has proved very popular. Students may also elect to continue along the CLAIT route by studying for Advanced CLAIT units. The next few years will see the delivery of ICT becoming increasingly cross-curricular.

Key Stage 5 Curriculum

Part of the School’s progressive programme of vocational courses is the Applied GCE in Information & Communication Technology offered by the department at AS and A2 level. Candidates follow the course of study as prescribed by OCR (links to unit specifications). As much of the content is assessed through coursework, candidates become skilled at organising and motivating themselves to make steady progress at all times. Much of the teaching is able to take place on an individual basis in response to the area of study being explored by the student at any particular time.

Candidates are reminded that work stored on the school’s network is automatically backed up every night. Work stored only at home or on a notebook computer may not have this level of protection.
