Combined Cadet Force
Trinity School
The CCF is a youth scheme, the aim of which is to provide an organisation in School,
based upon military concepts of discipline and training, within which boys and girls
may develop: powers of leadership and the qualities of responsibility; self-reliance;
resourcefulness; endurance; perseverance and a sense of service to the community.
This is done through the use of naval, military and adventure training to provide
fun activities, whilst at the same time meeting the more serious aims laid out above.
The CCF meets on Monday afternoons, and there are also weekend activities and Easter
and Summer Camps. The CCF is compulsory for all pupils in Year 9. Most pupils join
the Army section, but there are a limited number of vacancies in the Navy section.
Pupils in Years 10 and upwards may join either section, subject to vacancies, and
again will be expected to serve for a full year. Pupils follow a progressive training
programme, which leads to promotion and offers a status equivalent to that of senior
prefects.
The CCF is run by six full-time teaching staff, supported by Naval and Army Training
Teams, who visit regularly. All of the staff also have several Adventure Training
Qualifications to allow cadets to follow a variety of outdoor pursuits. Cadets climb,
canoe, sail, powerboat and take part in Ten Tors and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award
Scheme. This list continues to grow. Our aim is to provide safe, fun and exciting
training for your children within a broad framework of discipline and self-reliance.
In addition, the Cadet Training Centre in conjunction with the Edexcel Examinations
Board offer a Level 2 Vocational Award called BTEC Public Services First Diploma.
This equates to 4 GCSEs at grades A-C dependent on the grades achieved. Cadets have
to be age 16 before they register, but all work done in the CCF prior to this age
is accredited. University admissions tutors are already being very positive as it
shows that the Cadets have gained an award in their own time.
