Trinity School & Healthy Eating

Healthy eating and nutrition play a vital part in our children’s physical and educational development. Trinity’s approach to this is structured with its Nutritional Healthy Eating Policy and integrates the policy into the curriculum at key stages throughout the year groups.

Producing 200,000 meals every year, our in-house team provides a catering service for boarders, day pupils and nursery children from the ages of 6 months up to 19 years old.

Our catering team of twenty staff is managed by Stephen Rowe, with production overseen by our very talented ex-services Head Chef, Graham Robb and meals for Trinity Lodge Nursery are supervised under the ever watchful Sue Symonds. Our Head Chef, Graham ensures that high standards of quality, presentation, consistency and food safety are maintained at all times.

Our food offer, gives pupils the ability to make an informed choice when it comes to choosing their meal. We offer a wide range of healthy meal options alongside more traditional favourites. Younger pupils are encouraged to try new textures and tastes, whilst older pupils can balance their nutritional intake through a wide range of meal options. Lunch, is served in The Refectory, our main food service area where pupils can help themselves to as much fresh vegetables and cut fruit as they are able to eat.

In the Baguette Barn we offer freshly baked baguettes or jacket potatoes with a choice of fillings. There are no restrictions on fresh vegetables and fresh fruit. Protein intake is carefully monitored to ensure pupils receive the best possible nutrient balance for their age group.

Hand made local sausages and locally supplied meat, yoghurts made in our own kitchens, enhanced with fresh fruit and fruit purees, organic products wherever possible, vegetarian jellies, hot snacks at break time for seniors, freshly baked baguettes and fresh fruit for preparatory children all contribute to a healthier lifestyle for our growing children.

Trinity School — An Independent School’s Nutrition and Dietary Health Policy
Trinity School welcomes the Government’s introduction of nutritional standards. We have always placed great emphasis on the importance of good nutrition and we recognise that healthy eating in both the home and school environment is an essential part of growing children’s lives.
This document sets out our Nutrition and Health Policy and highlights how we seek not only to meet the Government Standards and Regulations, but to exceed them wherever possible.
A healthy diet is essential for maintaining and protecting children’s health, for ensuring they perform to their full potential during the school day, both academically and physically and for their growth and development. Our aim is to help them to establish a healthy lifestyle that, hopefully, will continue into adulthood.
We aim to set ourselves above the rest by establishing a positive association between food and health. We believe that part of our role as caterers is to assist in informing, encouraging and providing the opportunities for children to enjoy their school meal times, develop good eating habits, and lay the foundations for their future health.

Nutrition & Health Policy Introduction
This document sets out Trinity School’s policy and minimum standards on the provision of food in our School. Comprehensive and practical guidance, training and support for our catering team on the implementation and maintenance of these standards are provided separately.
Please note there is a separate Nutritional Health Policy for our Nursery at Trinity Lodge.
Our policy of nutritional standards ensures we have a sound basis to develop menus that we know will meet the needs of the growing child.
This document aims to provide information on balanced eating and on Trinity’s standards and good practice.
The overall aim of our Nutrition and Health Policy is to provide a balanced diet that contains
LESS fat, sugar and salty foods
MORE fruit and vegetables
MORE organic ingredients
LESS additive enriched foods
LESS processed foods
A VETO on foods with genetically modified content
