Economics
National Proshare
competition entered.
Economics has greatly benefited from having its own dedicated classroom with excellent ICT facilities. The enthusiasm shown by the students for the investment share competition has meant that next year we will be in a position to enter the Bank of England’s competition to advise the Monetary Policy Committee Target Tthis time next year, the Business and Economics Department could be £10,000 richer and four of our Year 13s might have been wined and dined in the City of London by none other than the Governor Mervyn King!
Students have attended an Economics conference at UWE in June. Many of our very successful past pupils have obtained Masters Degrees in Economicsrelated areas. 50% of the current Year 13 Economists are going on to study the subject at university, whilst the rest are studying media and journalism related courses, encouraged by the knowledge of current affairs they have acquired studying Economics. We wish them every success.
Business
Contacts with local businesses include Burts Chips, Ginsters, Blackfriars Distillery
Centre, Crealy Adventure Park, The Big Sheep, Short Run Press Ltd., and Riverford Farm.
Congratulations to Year 13 students on their excellent response to the demands of
the A2 Business course with Nicholas Choi, Lucas Lai, Jay Kwok and Evan Pun all
predicted high grades. Many current Year 13 students are planning to continue
their Business studies at university. We wish them every success.
This year will be the first A2 Business results and the results for both AS & A2 are excellent.
The two new GCSE courses – Business and Economics and Business Studies – are
proving popular with students.
