Personal Development |

The tutorial system is based on the strong belief that personal development is vital for any young person. It focuses on building self-confidence and providing the support required to develop both socially and morally. Pastoral support and a full programme of clubs and activities are integral to such development. In addition to these activities (click here for the full list of activities available to boarders), we are always happy to arrange others, if at all possible. Prefects: Prefects assist in the running of the boarding house by supporting the staff boarding team. They are not allowed to issue their own sanctions and must always consult with staff if there have been any problems rather than trying to deal with the problems themselves. Prefects receive anti-bullying and child protection training. They are appointed by the Residential Staff team on the basis of reliability, responsibility and maturity. Duties include supervising study and assisting staff with refectory supervision.. The prefect system allows boarders the opportunity to develop leadership and teamwork skills and to contribute to the community. They learn to take responsibility. The boarding team works closely with the prefects to provide guidance and support. There are also opportunities to develop leadership skills outside the prefect system - perhaps as a Boarders' Executive Council member, running the tuck shop, helping with trips or as a social representative. Boarders Council: All year groups elect two representatives to put forward suggestions or raise issues at the Boarders' Executive Council - a pupil-only organisation designed to improve communication and ensure that boarding is fulfilling for all. The Council meets twice a term. |
