Our Boarding Houses

Chapel House is for the junior boarders (Year 5 to Pre-A level)

MD Halls is for the senior boarders (Pre-A level to year 13)

Here at Trinity School, we have 2 boarding houses;

- Chapel House, for our junior boarders (Year 5 to Pre-A Level)

- MD Halls, for our senior boarders (Pre-A Level to year 13).

Both houses allow encourage our boarders to become independent and thrive in a supportive and nurturing enviornment.

Chapel House

Chapel boarding is a buzzing place, embracing a variety of ages, cultures and interests. Our house consists of a girls’ and boys’ area, with separate bedrooms, common rooms, toilets and showers, and an office which all boarders can access, should they want to speak to their houseparent. Boarders can also use communal areas, sports facilities and study together.

Currently, we have boarders from 10 different countries, and they all enrich our community. We see ourselves as one big family - we stick together, care for and respect each other. If you live here, you will often hear us using the words ‘we’ and ‘us’, as we strongly believe in the importance of community.

With parents trusting us to care for their son or daughter, every child in our house, whether 11 or 18, is equally important. Throughout their time with us, every young person is given the opportunity to get involved in many aspects of school and boarding life, to mature, to make mistakes and, more importantly, to learn from them, and to take on responsibility.

Our boarders usually grow in confidence during their time with us and learn from each other. Though we have quiet areas, you will rarely be on your own in our boarding house as our boarders participate in activities we organise and study hard for their subjects – so there is always something to do! We encourage everybody to take an active part in our community, which includes participating in weekend trips and activities which we organise to enrich the boarding experience.

Boarders' academic progress is supported by maintaining strong links with our teachers and tutors, assisting them with their studies and mentoring each child on an individual basis. Guiding our girls and boys through tough teenage years and difficult decisions is indeed a challenge; we aspire to support them become strong, young individuals who succeed in today’s complex world.

We invite you to meet us and to become a member of our family.

Here’s what some of our boarders say about their boarding house:

"I’ve never been homesick; I only miss Hong Kong food, but not my home - this is home now. We always laugh here."

"There’s no better place to find friends for life."

"Doesn’t feel like school, but like home."

"It’s good to have a variety of cultures."

MD Halls

Greetings from Mr Lovett and Miss Ashfield who are the resident house parents in MD Halls boarding house.

Staff accommodation is located at either end of the boarding house. The two wings are joined by a shared kitchen and common room facilities and the impressive common room is a focal point of the house, where students gather to socialise, play games and cook.

There is a constant staff presence in the house with the residential staff being assisted by experienced day staff who provide thorough cover and supervision throughout the evening. More importantly, they provide invaluable pastoral and academic support. The house has a family atmosphere where our children enjoy entertaining and being entertained by their fellow boarders.

Weekend activities are varied and consist of trips involving all year groups and nationalities. Activities such as go- karting, escape rooms and paintballing are popular with the senior students.

Sixth formers are also given the independence and flexibility to travel into nearby Exeter at the weekend.

There is always some form of evening entertainment, from participating in sports or playing music. Sixth Form day pupils are often invited to integrate and enjoy social occasions with the boarders. Popular evenings include movie nights and discos. Equally, boarders are encouraged to go and stay with day pupils.

The integration of all students is crucial – whether they are new to boarding, from overseas or a flexi-boarder. The close community feel at Trinity, especially in the boarding house, means that there is always somebody looking out for you, whether it be your peers, visiting day staff or the residential team. As a result, students are happy, content and therefore able to work and play hard!

Here’s what some of our boarders say about their boarding house:

"I really enjoy boarding - we have lots of really fun activities."

"My child was able to overcome difficulties and returned enriched by a unique experience which he will remember all his life." (Parent)

"I feel secure and comfortable here; I feel I can be myself."

"I had such an amazing time, but it was definitely too short - especially the weekend trips which were awesome!"
