Art Department

Art is a form of communication and a means of expression

which ought to permeate the whole life of the school.

It affects or should affect all of our life, from the design of the commonplace articles of everyday life,to the highest form of individual expression.

The department is fortunate to be situated on the top floor of the latest addition to the school, the Sutton building.

We occupy the whole of the top floor in a substantial studio which is bright and airy. The subject is well resourced and as a result we are able to offer the opportunity for study in the following skill areas.

DRAWING

PAINTING

MIXED MEDIA/SCULPTURE

PRINTING                                 (screen printing, collograph, drypoint and block)

DIGITAL IMAGING

CERAMICS*                              (sculpture, handbuilding and throwing)

Programmes of study are fairly fluid as we do not advocate a “house style” favouring working with the strengths of our students and exploring an ever increasing variety of art forms. Art at Trinity is not produced in isolation; students relate ideas and outcomes to the work of artists, cultures and societies throughout the ages to current trends.

The layout of the studio allows for collaborative group work on a large scale to be explored. The popularity of the subject continues to grow with increased numbers opting for the subject at examination level both at GCSE and A Level. There has been an increase in the number of students who are pursuing the subject at Higher Education.

The staffing for the department comprises:

                                                            Mr Cairns          Head of Art

Mr Taylor           Part time teacher of Art

                                                            Karen Sanders   Technician
