The Governors are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Lawrence Coen as Head of Trinity School, with effect from 1 September 2016. Chairman of Governors, Mr Simon Brookman, brought us the news after a demanding 3 day selection programme which saw six exceptional candidates being invited for interview and assessment. As Mr Brookman explained, “all the candidates showed particular qualities and strengths that would have been of enormous benefit to the School in this post. After extensive deliberations the Governors were of the view that Mr Coen offered the combination of skills and experience that the School needs.”
The appointment follows December's news that our present Head, Mr Tim Waters, is moving on to take up a headship at Sherborne International School with effect from the next school year. Mr Coen has been Deputy Head at Trinity since September 2013. A delighted Mr Coen is already looking forward to the challenge of taking Trinity forward into a new era, particularly as his appointment coincides with Trinity’s recognition by the Good Schools Guide.
Mr Coen joined the School in 2005 with his wife Natalie who teaches Food Technology in the Senior Department. After joining us as a residential boarding tutor and Science teacher he has remained committed to all aspects of School life since, including being Director of Sport and Deputy Head of Sixth Form. He was appointed Senior Tutor (Pastoral) in September 2009 and Senior Deputy Head in September 2013. Mr and Mrs Coen currently have three children in the Preparatory Department with their eldest Benjamin, moving up to Year 7 in September 2016. The family are well-known in various sporting, outdoor activity and church circles around Teignmouth, such as Teignmouth Rugby Club, and have had a particularly close involvement in developing the vibrant Teignmouth Surf Life Saving Club, a popular focal point for water enthusiasts of all ages in the local community.
Lawrence and Natalie will be inviting Trinitonians old and new to join them for refreshments at the Trinity stand (Row 1 Stand 80) at the Devon County Show on Friday 20th May at 5.30pm.
