In response to the situation in Nepal, the school will be holding a ‘Nepal Awareness and Fundraising Event’ next Friday 8th May.
This is intended to be a whole school event where we work together to raise awareness and money for the people of Nepal, left in extremely vulnerable and impoverished situations since April’s earthquake.
The event will include:
A large world map drawn in chalk on the ground for pupils and staff to cover with coins. The plan is that we cover Nepal with silver coins and the rest of the world with copper coins.
A display of bunting flags (similar to those that decorate Base Camp on Mount Everest) created by the Prep Dept. Each flag will carry a message from one of the prep pupils or staff in support of families in Nepal left heartbroken having lost their own families and homes.
A display raising awareness of the effects of the earthquake.
A display raising awareness of the work of ShelterBox, our nominated charity for this event. See http://www.shelterbox.org/
A cake sale to raise funds.
A written prayer for Nepal on display for those who would find this helpful.
We are asking all pupils and staff to come to school on Friday 8th May with some money they would be happy to donate (including some loose change) and some cakes for sale.
Here is how our fundraising for ShelterBox could help:
£55 warmth and protection - Thermal blankets and groundsheets help people stay warm once they have lost their homes.
£230 shelter for a family – ShelterBox’s disaster relief tent is custom made and is designed to withstand extreme temperatures, high winds and heavy rainfall.
£590 a new start - A complete ShelterBox will provide a family with the shelter and other vital equipment they need to rebuild their lives after a disaster or humanitarian crisis.
