20th January 2015
Since Jacob Evans of Year 8 joined Trinity in September 2013 he has impressed many of us with his outstanding level of footballing skill. What some of us may not have known until recently is that Jacob’s ability in the sport has come to the attention of talent scouts working for professional football teams.
Speaking to his mother, Mrs Sally Evans, recently, we learned that he has been noticed locally by Exeter City and Torquay United, and now, amazingly, by Chelsea. As Mrs Evans explains, ‘Jacob was invited to attend a trial day at Chelsea's Cobham Training ground back in July along with around 50 other boys. Jacob came away from Chelsea simply grateful for the experience, and didn't expect anything to come from it. However, in December we were contacted again and asked to attend another trial day on the 28 December. There were around 40 boys at this trial, and they stressed that they would probably only invite 2 or 3 boys back again. Suffice to say we thought that would be the end of the road. But it wasn't, as the next day we were emailed back again by Chelsea asking Jacob to go and train with the Academy for a weekend on the 10th/11th January. He thoroughly enjoyed his time there, and they have been in contact since to say that they were impressed and will be keeping an eye on him through the local scouts. This has been such an achievement for him, and his confidence has soared through this experience.’
At Trinity we are delighted that things have been going so well for Jacob. Head of Key Stage 3, Mrs Gerry Davis is full of praise. ‘I am absolutely delighted that he is being given a chance to showcase his talent, which he is very modest about. He is a hardworking and popular member of his year group and I am extremely proud of him’, she commented.
