Emily Syms wins Regional Tour title

18th March 2015

Tremendous success for Emily Syms of Year 7 – she won her first Regional Tour Title in the 12 years and under age group level last weekend. Emily won the Taunton event in some style, without dropping a single set. The first 2 matches were both won 6/0 6/0 before Emily was stretched in the Semi Finals by Amy Leather of Bristol before coming through by the score of 6/2 6/3 in a high quality match. In the final Emily faced Treshar Kumar of Somerset, and after falling behind 2/1 in a nervous start she showed her quality and grew in confidence as she raced away to a 6/2 6/0 win to secure the title.

The win will help push Emily up the National Ranking list and also give her confidence heading into National events over Easter in Sutton, Nottingham and Oxford. Emily's father and coach Mark Syms said it was great to see her win the Regional title following lots of hard work to regain her fitness following a couple of months where she had to cut back on her tournament and training schedule due to patella tendonitis in her left knee.

Emily is now fully fit thanks to extra strength and conditioning work and trains for over 16 hours a week at Teignmouth Tennis Club, which operates from the school grounds, and Exeter University. She is coached by Charlottle Wallace as well as her father.
