It was a Book Week to remember, as everyone contributed to the writing of our own version of the story ‘Dart the River’ by Fi Darby and Lucy Atkins. Monday morning’s assembly was taken by author and Senior Department English Subject Leader Lucy, who read the book and inspired everyone. This was followed by all children having three days of adventure, visiting sites of the River Teign from its source to the mouth.
The children wrote descriptions and drew sketches of all the things they saw, heard and smelt. On Thursday, Fi Darby joined us for the day, initially talking about how to write a book and then leading workshops on taking their notes and creating the text for a book.
Other workshops included Art of the Teign and the Geography of its course, both using photographs and maps. The end of their fabulous book week saw all dressing in ‘water’ inspired costumes and the first reading of the completed story of the journey of the Teign.
A huge thank you must go to Mrs Sutton for her hard work in organising what has been a thrilling week.
