We were inspected in November 2008 by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) ( PDF report ).

They concluded that Trinity: “is successful in meeting its aims, notably in drawing out the best in each pupil”. They stated that the School offers “good overall provision with some features which are outstanding”.

Described as “an enthusiastic and friendly community”, the School was praised for its care of individuals, which the inspection team felt had been augmented and “remains a strength of the school.”

The pupils were also praised, being described as “well grounded in knowledge and understanding”. Achievement was particularly notable in the Early Years, where it was described as “good and sometimes outstanding”. Pupils throughout the school are described as “confident, self-aware and clearly understand and respect the needs of others”.

Teaching was described as being of good quality, with the best being “stimulating, challenging and exciting”. They also state that teaching at Trinity “seeks to bring out the individual pupils’ capabilities and give them confidence.” The relationship between pupils and staff was described as “strong”.

To give you some perspective with which to judge the report: aspects of each school’s provision are judged according to a four point scale, on which ‘outstanding’ is the top ranking and ‘good’ the second best.. ‘Outstanding’ is generally awarded where that aspect of the school’s provision is judged to be in the top 5% of all UK independent schools ie. top of what is globally recognised as the best school education sector in the world.

To have received this “outstanding” judgement with respect to some of our provision is extremely pleasing. To have also achieved a “good” judgement in eight of the nine reported areas is a further feather in our cap, this being quite difficult to do. We were also successful in satisfying all of the 250+ regulatory requirements to which independent schools are required to conform, something that many schools are currently having difficulty with. The recommendations for improvement made are few in number, with only two likely to be lengthy tasks.

Reading reports from other schools for comparison, both locally and UK-wide, is very encouraging. None of our direct competitors is reported on more favourably and a good number come out less well, some markedly so.

The task for us now is to continue with the excellent work that is being done at Trinity, to respond swiftly and robustly to the report’s recommendations and thereby to improve further on the School’s impressive performance. The School is currently developing an action plan in response to the report’s recommendations and we will publish this once it is complete.
