Development at Trinity School
Trinity School
Trinity has been presented with the "Award for Excellence" by the Independent
Schools Association in recognition of the School's growth, progress and significant
development since its foundation in 1979, and its outstanding educational achievements.
Trinity is now an International Boarding and Day School for boys and girls from
3 months - 19 years old, although the building had housed a girl’s convent school
under the Order of Notre Dame prior to this for over seventy years.
The number of day and boarding pupils has risen from 220 in 1992 to over 550 (including
the Nursery) in the year 2012. Our aim is to maintain pupil numbers at this current
level to ensure that our unique atmosphere is maintained.
In order to allow this growth, Trinity has, in only a decade, undertaken a succession
of phased developments, aimed at creating a balanced School with excellent resources.
These developments, which have cost more than £6 million, include:
- Science and Mathematical Resources Block
- Three new phases of classroom development
- Two new blocks of boarding accommodation, complete with en-suite facilities
- 25m Swimming Pool
- Indoor Tennis Academy
- Design Technology Centre
- Outdoor tennis Courts and new hard surface sports and play areas
- “Learning Success” Centre
- Purpose built Art centre
- New staff room
In addition, the School has continued to upgrade and adapt its historic buildings.
This includes substantial investment in IT facilities, such that we now have over
400 workstations throughout the School and interactive whiteboards in many classrooms.
The Governing Body has ensured that the work has been financed sustainably. Most
of the cost of these developments has already been paid off. The School therefore
has a very valuable asset base, with low liabilities. As a charity, we will continue
to reinvest in the school, as rapidly as possible, to ensure that the existing pupils
will always benefit from top-class facilities.
Covering the age-range
As part of the development strategy, Trinity has aimed to provide education for
the whole family. The growth of the Nursery and the substantial expansion of the
Sixth Form mean that the School can now rightly claim to provide high quality education
for children of all ages
The Trinity Lodge Nursery caters for children from 3 months to 5 years old and can
provide up to 79 full time places. The Prep Department can house up to 140 pupils
and Senior Department up to 400. With a Sixth Form of approximately 100 students,
pupils of all ages can receive education in a community that is small enough to
provide a genuinely individual experience, whilst being large enough to provide
good levels of choice.
Investment in Staff
As well as investment in buildings, considerable investment has also been made in
staff, so that small classes can be maintained (our teacher: pupil ratio is 1:10).
We have also been granted the "Investors in People award" from the British Government
in recognition of our commitment to all our staff in terms of training, welfare
and future improvement.
