Children usually join Nursery 2 after their second birthday and spend approximately a year with us before moving up to Nursery 3 around their third birthday. Many children join us from Nursery 1, for others it is their first contact with Trinity Lodge. There is safe, easy access to the extensive school grounds, which we frequently enjoy. Trinity Lodge is fitted with a security system and CCTV to ensure optimum safety for your child. A bell must be rung to gain entry.
Nursery 2 is based in two separate areas. Nursery 2 ‘Stars’ are located on the second floor of Trinity Lodge and caters for the younger 2 year olds. Nursery 2 ‘Rainbows’ are located on the ground floor and caters for the older 2 year olds and the younger 3 year olds.
Nursery 2 Stars continue with the Birth to Three Framework which prepares the way for the Foundation Stage which begins when they reach the age of 3. We consider the 4 aspects and our planning is based around them. The plans are displayed for parents to see on the notice board outside Nursery 2.

Nursery 2 Rainbows is part of the Foundation Stage and work very closely with Nursery 3 sharing the curriculum planning. There are long, medium and short term plans. We plan around various themes which we will inform you of each half term. Please encourage your child to bring something connected to these themes for the interest table each week. Also, something beginning with the letter of the week. Please reinforce the sound of this letter at home.

We also provide carefully monitored work experience for committed students of childcare.
We aim to provide a secure, happy and stimulating environment where, through carefully chosen play activities, your child will be encouraged to develop emotionally, socially, intellectually and physically. Each child is regarded as an individual and as such is encouraged to develop his/her abilities to their full potential.
We follow the same term time dates as the Prep Department, starting at 8.30am and finishing at 3.30pm. Your child may attend for morning (starting at 9.00am if you prefer) or afternoon sessions or a full day to suit your requirements.
If you require day care, Trinity Lodge is open from 8.00am to 6.00pm for 50 weeks a year. Your child can be cared for by the day care staff and taken to and from the Nursery class at the appropriate times.
Please always provide your child with a coat and suitable footwear as we go outside whatever the weather! During the summer months please provide a hat and apply sun cream.
A snack will be provided during the morning and afternoon consisting of a variety of fresh fruit, raw vegetables, bread sticks, plain biscuits, cheese and biscuits, savoury biscuits and homemade cakes and milk or water will be on offer to drink. Water is available in the Nursery at all times.
We will work with you to continue whatever stage of toilet training your child has reached so please discuss this with us. Please provide all necessary nappies, wipes, creams and changes of clothing.
A hot lunch is served at 12 noon for children staying until 1.00pm or for the whole day. This is cooked on the premises using fresh ingredients. Wherever possible we will avoid using additives and genetically modified ingredients. We aim to use organically grown food whenever we can. The children are very well supported whilst eating their lunch so that each child’s needs are catered for. After lunch comfortable bedding is provided in Nursery 2 Stars for those children who need to sleep. Those children not sleeping join up with Nursery 2 Rainbows.
Our planning is focussed on the children’s own interests.
Each child is allocated to a key worker who will be responsible for checking that the child’s assessment and personal portfolio is up to date. Parents will be informed in writing who this person is but the child will not be told as we feel it is important for them to feel they can build relationships with all staff members or a particular one of their choosing. Parents may wish to talk to the key worker about any issues concerning their child but as not everyone can be available at all times of the day, any one of us who is available will always be very happy to talk to you. You may find you talk most often to someone who is not your child’s key worker. This is not a problem as we work closely together as a team keeping each other informed and all working together to provide the best possible care for your child.
If your child is on medication, please give it to a member of staff who will give you a medical form to complete.
Please feel free to talk to the Nursery staff at any time. On occasions it may be difficult to talk at length when you drop off or pick up your child, in which case we are always willing to arrange a mutually convenient time for further discussion. We are here to help you and your child in any way possible.
Full time day care children have a ‘My Day’ form in which all daily activities and progress are recorded. This is an invaluable two-way communication between Nursery and home.
As part of our Christian ethos we celebrate festivals such as Christmas and Easter. We also celebrate festivals of other contemporary religions.
All our policies are available in a folder on the main notice board on the ground floor. Please feel free to refer to these at your convenience.
